Liam Neeson began boxing at age 9 and boxed at an amateur level until he was 17. A definitive diagnosis of chronic traumatic encephalopathy can only be made with an examination of brain tissue after a person’s death.

It’s a slow-paced movie, but I think it builds up nicely

I was expecting another Liam Neeson-driven action movie, but this is a more thoughtful film. You really get the sense that the boy regrets his life choices at the end.

You also get the sense that he was meant for that life

I think the development of Liam’s character throughout the movie strengthens your feelings for him. He’s a flawed and violent person who, by the end, becomes more desperate to reconcile with the family he walked away from. The movie touches heavily on intergenerational abuse and neglect and the chaos and strife that drives one generation after another.

Plus, I felt the movie was exceptionally written

If you’re willing to put in the time and enjoy Neeson’s more subtle performances, you should enjoy it.
