Two Harkonnen sisters battle forces that threaten the future of humanity and form the fabled sect that becomes known as the Bene Gesserit. Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping dystopias, or making the world a better place, these women are what science fiction is all about. This series uses material from Brian Herbert and Kevin J. A prequel to the original Dune film, it tells how the Sisterhood of Rossak evolved into the Bene Gesserit. The incident in which Valya Harkonnen uses her voice comes from a book called Mentats of Dune.

All three books weave together the evolution of the Sisterhood, the Mentats, the Navigators, and the Suk doctors. The new HBO original series Dune: Prophecy is a prequel to Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel Dune. However, the series is based on the 2012 novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. It is all about the Sisterhood – the origins of the Bene Gesserit, set 10,000 years before the birth of Paul Atreides.

Episode 1: The Hidden Hand is a sci-fi fantasy drama with amazing special effects and mesmerizing scenes. The episode introduces Valya Harkonnen (Emily Watson) and shows how she becomes the leader of the Sisterhood. Valya trains young women to become diviners by putting them through rigorous physical and mental training to develop supernatural abilities. They believe that the tools for survival are strength – the power of humanity and lies – man’s greatest weapon. A power struggle ensues between the sisters, with Tula using power to lead, but Valya using it to rule.

Meanwhile, Emperor Javicco Corrino (Mark Strong) is entrusted with keeping peace in the Empire, but he must deal with his own problems in order to maintain power and control. He reluctantly decides to allow the young son (literally a child) of Duke Ferdinand Richese (Brendan Cowell) to marry his daughter Princess Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina) in order to secure an alliance in case she ascends to the Golden Lion Throne. Things get worse when Princess Ynez is influenced by her self-centered brother Constantine Corrino (Josh Heuston) and her lust for control over Swordmaster Kieran Atreides. During all the chaos, mysterious soldier Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel) infiltrates the Empire to gain the trust of Emperor Javicco Corrino. Showrunner Alison Schapker is known for bringing the cinematic visual effects of the imaginative sci-fi world to the screen, as seen in the TV series Lost, The Flash, the critically acclaimed HBO series Westworld, and now Dune: Prophecy.
