Spanning four tumultuous decades during The Troubles in Northern Ireland

The real-life Dolores Price was married for two decades (1983-2003) to Irish actor Stephen Rea.

During this period, Rea appeared in the film for which she is perhaps best known in the United States: the 1992 romantic thriller The Crying Game

In that film, Rea played Fergus, an extremely reluctant and ambiguous member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA) – the same organization Price had been involved with for many years.

The series clearly tries to provide balance when examining this period

As a Northerner, it is very surreal to watch such a quality television series set during this period.

The characters on all sides are developed and brilliantly acted, especially Dolours Price and Brendan Hughes, and the oddball humor is very welcome and handled well

Obviously, the main focus towards the end is on the missing, particularly Jean McConville and several former IRA volunteers, but it does an excellent job of portraying the motivations and circumstances of those who joined the IRA.

Overall, it’s a sometimes exciting, but also thought-provoking watch, one I certainly felt was worth setting aside a day to watch!
